Tour the Everglades

Tour the Everglades Information

The Miccosukee Tribe has called the Everglades home for hundreds of years and the Seminole Tribe of Florida can trace their history in the area back thousands of years.  These two tribes were both well adapted to the area’s unique ecology, using their expert fishing and trapping skills for trade and sustenance.  You can learn about these tribes’ unique traditions and rich histories on a daytrip or overnight visit from Miami as you explore the thousands of acres of lush Florida Everglades.

The Miccosukee family-owned and operated Buffalo Tigers Tours offers airboat tours with Native guides.  In addition to viewing the teeming wildlife including alligators, you will have the opportunity to take a nature walk and see an authentic Miccosukee Indian camp.  The nearby Miccosukee Indian Village offers guided tours of the tribe’s history, culture and lifestyle.  Stop by Miccosukee Restaurant on the way in or out to try authentic Indian fare like fry bread.

The Billie Swamp Safari on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation offers family airboat rides through cypress domes to see active wildlife in its natural swamp habitat.  You also have the opportunity to stay the night in a chickee, a traditional thatch-roof dwelling. For those staying past sunset, the park offers night excursions that include swamp buggy rides and Native storytelling. During your visit, satisfy your hunger at Swamp Water Café which serves up American fare as well as native Seminole delicacies such as catfish, frog legs and gator tail nuggets.

Explore these and many more activities with the Miccosukee and Seminole Tribes of Florida.
